Fabulous Friday | Bowling Balls on a Stick

That’s right…you did read that right. I was out photographing our daughter one evening and we were walking down the sidewalk. It was freezing and it was starting to rain when we saw this…

Do you ever happen upon things in life and just wonder…”IS this REAL?” Well, I had one of those moments. The kidlet says “Who in the WORLD, would put a bowling ball on a STICK and have it in a garden!!!!?” She found this to be one of the most entertaining things for awhile! Squinting my eyes, to get a closer look and to make sure I was NOT imagining this. I took a quick pic…I tossed my head back and we laughed, because REALLY, the bowling ball on a stick, deserves a good laugh. I then said “Well babe, I guess these people do!” It’s been an interesting topic for us a few times now…WOW! Because life comes with no guarantees & who couldn’t use a good laugh now and again! I wish I could hug these people! Happy Friday peeps!

John & Liz | Downtown Portland Engagement Session

Monday night was our engagement shoot with John + Liz. They like to laugh, joke and have a good time. John and Liz were given a location, by a friend of ours who is an avid outdoors woman. For fun, she takes 40 mile bike rides up the Columbia Gorge. She recently went on a weekend hiking trip with her group. Long story short- this woman owns the trails, maybe we could call her “trail blazer” and not as in the basketball team. Anyhows, we meet John and Liz at Macleay Park. It is in the trendy district of Portland, secluded in a neighborhood. It is like a hidden gem, this park has some amazing trails! However, poor Liz had flip flops on and we were packing the camera gear, and I think we all felt a bit less than a *insert cough here* “trail blazer”! There is a really cool stone house at the top of the trail and you have our setting for this adventure!

After we found our way back down the trail, which was a bit easier in the humid weather. We made our way into downtown Portland. It was a bit chilly! It looked and felt like we were going to have a huge down pour of rain. Through it all, John and Liz stayed in a great mindset. Touching, hugging and smooching once in a while too! It is so fun to see two people IN LOVE and just watch how they interact together. Especially when you can see that they truly enjoy, each others company. I guarantee in this life and the span of their relationship, these two will always be laughing! Here are a few images from their night. John and Liz we look forward to your wedding day on 8-9-10! Summer in “Juneuary”!!!

There are so many things that we LOVE about summer…a couple of things are sunsets (I’m a total sucker for an awesome sunset) and warm evenings. I think that it is something that most Oregonians, look forward to. This year it has been abnormal weather! It has been so cold here in the Pacific Northwest! Most everyone I know keeps wondering…”Is summer ever going to get here!” It’s the much loved days of “cookin’ out” as a good friend would say. It’s watching the kids play in the yard and the sun catching the highlights in their hair. It’s feeling like a rebel because your break the rules of “bedtime”! Then your kid thinks you are REALLY cool because you let them stay up late! It’s quick camping trips, if even for one night and seeing all the stars in the sky, and realizing that there is something bigger out there.

The really cool thing about being an adult (even though I am extremely jealous of NOT getting summer break from school ;P) Is that we now, get to experience the summer, through the eyes of our daughter. Today, we sat on the back porch reading a COOK BOOK (yes, we love new recipes and sauces!) basking in the rays of sunshine and watched our daughter ride around on her bike with her friend. They were dancing, laughing and thinking that they are WAY TOO COOL! It just makes me smile. It’s the small things in life…right?

Popsicles, flip flops, dribbling icecream cones, coconut lotion, Iced tea, camp fires and the sunburn you got because you forgot the sunblock! Cherished are the adventures we share as a family, that really enjoys being with eachother! What are your summer traditions…what makes this time of year great for you? Let us know!
